Although he is not widely known outside of healthcare circles, Drew Madden is quickly becoming one of the most prominent leaders within the healthcare IT space in the United States. Having been in the healthcare IT industry for nearly 20 years, Madden has gained more real-world experience and greater insights into the challenges facing the U.S. healthcare system and their potential solutions than, perhaps, anyone else in the country today.
Fresh out of college, Madden went to work for the Cerner Corporation, one of the largest providers of healthcare IT software and systems in the country. After a year-long stint there, he was offered another position at rival company Epic Systems. This experience gave Madden the opportunity to gain a level of familiarity with the two most dominant healthcare IT systems in the country, giving him a deep understanding of the way that the technology works but also how the people who use it interact with it.
Madden then went to spend more than 10 years as a junior partner, then as an upper-level executive with Nordic Consulting Partners. As the CEO of that company, Madden was able to grow the firm from a boutique consultancy into one of the most formidable consulting companies in the healthcare IT space, with more than 750 employees and more than 150 of the largest hospital systems as clients.
But as his career progressed, Drew Madden saw that the entire paradigm of healthcare IT consulting contained a flaw; it was too focused on technology and not focused enough on the people who use it. Madden saw that healthcare professionals were often extremely good at their jobs and had incredible knowledge and skills in the medical field. But these people were often little more versed in the use of advanced technology than any person randomly selected off the street. Madden saw that the technology had to be redesigned to be more user friendly. Additionally, technology should always be there to help the user. The user should never be there to help the technology.
These are the core tenets that led Madden to found Evergreen Healthcare Partners in 2017. Today, it is among the fastest-growing healthcare consultancies in the country.
