Dr. Mark McKenna: Dedicated Husband, Father, Medical Professional and Entrepreneur

Dr. Mark McKenna, the founder and CEO of OVME, is a surgeon and medical doctor licensed in Florida and Georgia. The New Orleans, Louisiana native earned his medical degree from Tulane University Medical School. After graduating, he joined his father in a medical practice. Dr. McKenna also started a real estate development firm called McKenna Venture Investments. Over the next few years, he also added Uptown Title and Universal Mortgage Lending. His companies offered financing, design-build as well as real estate closing services and employed more than 50 people.

Hurricane Katrina severely damaged his companies in 2005. Dr. McKenna helped with the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans by doing low-moderate income housing redevelopment. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2007 and founded the wellness and aesthetics medical practice ShapeMed. In 2014 he sold the company to Life Time Fitness, and served as their medical director until 2016. In July the next year, Dr. McKenna founded OVME, a technology enabled consumer-facing medical aesthetics company. It was a business concept he developed based on his over 10 years of experience in the industry.

Dr. McKenna is an Entrepreneurs Organization member, dedicated community servant and passionate patient advocate. A husband and father of a beautiful daughter, even though he usually spends many hours a day working, he always has breakfast and dinner with his family and makes time for meditation and Jiu Jitsu training. They help Dr. McKenna to develop his mind, body and spirit and better enjoy life.

A voracious reader, Dr. McKenna recommends people check out Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich. He incorporates some of its creative visualization and active goal setting techniques to bring his ideas to life. Part of his strategy for success is surrounding himself with people that are smarter than he is. He draws inspiration from people like Michael Bloomberg, Elon Musk and Barack Obama.

Looking back, Dr. McKenna wishes he had found an area he was passionate about earlier in life. He’s concerned that by rushing he’s missed out on some important things. So now he regularly reminds himself that ‘Speed without direction is useless’.
